Film & TV Tax Credit Applications
Did you know that up to 40% of your budget is recoupable through refundable tax credits? Talk to us (preferably) before or after principal photography and we will design a plan that will ensure maximum returns and a smooth application process.
Provincially, Ontario Creates (formally Ontario Media Development Corporation - OMDC) and the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) jointly administer various tax credits including the Ontario Film and Television Tax Credit (OFTTC) which offers 35% of eligible labour expenses, the Ontario Production Services Tax Credit (OPSTC) which offers 21.5% of all qualifying expenses and the Ontario Computer Animation & Special Effects Tax Credit (CASE) which offers 18% of Labour.
Federally, the Department of Canadian Heritage administers tax credits through the Canadian Audio Visual Certification Office (CAVCO) and the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) which include The Canadian Film or Video Production Services Tax Credit (CPTC) which offers 25% on Canadian Labour and The Film or Video Production Services Tax Credit (PSTC) which offers 16% on Labour.
Both Provincial and Federal programs can be stacked together (less an assistance discount) that can return a significant portion of expenses back to the production. This makes it very attractive to potential investors, guaranteeing them a sizeable recoupment.
FINANCE TAX CREDITS IN ADVANCE OF YOUR PRODUCTION
Most of the time, filmmakers elect to use estimates of these tax credits to help finance the cost of their project in advance. This can be achieved by having a financial institution or private investor bankroll most of the value of the estimate. One of our areas of expertise is preparing all the necessary documentation required to make this happen. CONTACT US HERE
